Ayres Rock (Uluru) Trip - Broken Hill to Uluru

April 2007

The drive through Cockburn, Olary and Manna Hill on the way to Peterborough was pretty ordinary as those villages were struggling to be more than places on the map. Despite the fact that some were trying to keep the villages viable, it is a constant struggle. Peterborough was going OK and had a good shopping centre with quite a few tourist attractions for an old railway township. We camped at the local Caravan Park and looked at the ‘open’ tourist attractions briefly, but, we have been back many times since and spent lots of dollars in the town. At Port Aususta we had to do more shopping as crossing the SA border had cost us some banned fruit & vegetables, so to re-stock the fridge and food bin because there would not be many supermarkets further north. While we were stopped we did take a look around as Fiona was starting to look at where were heading, I didn’t want to discourage her so we worked out how we were going to deal with travel and camping from here on. To my surprise she didn’t even blink .... in fact she was seriously excited
